Kinja'd!!!6 Kinja'd!!! 24

I went to Classic Japan last weekend, an annual event featuring any Japanese car old enough to get a club permit (25 years). Sadly the Autozam AZ-1 from last year didn’t return (I lost my shit over it several times in a very short timespan), but there was plenty of hot Japanese porn to swoon over.

The 25 year rule means this year cars from 1990 were included this year. This is right about the time the bubble hit, giving us a good selection of R32 Skylines, Z32 300ZXs (both of which showed up in very small numbers last year, those built in late 1989), the HC Cosmo (twin-turbo, triple-rotor) and the fabled NSX. There was also a very early Cosmo which was fantastic to see. I didn’t capture all the cars, many of them I snapped last year.

On to the pics.

Kinja'd!!!

This actually wasn’t even the first Lamborghini we saw, we passed a pack including 2 white cocaine-spec Countaches on the highway. My friend later told me he saw a Countach stranded on the same road - such is the life of an Italian caburetted V12.

Subaru Vortex! Like a 3rd gen Prelude, only more so. Never seen one. Was thrilled.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Plenty of R30/R31s hanging around.

Kinja'd!!!

Recently I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . There were like 3 at this show. Guess they’re not as rare as I thought. Or maybe spottings are skewed at such an event.

Have a feeling this was one of the 929/Cosmos. Love the interior. Dash was very digital IIRC

This was definitely a 929. Note the pop-out cassette drawer.

The JC Cosmo. So much character! Yes, it’s the tri-rotor twin-turbo. I had a pic of the engine but my phone swallowed it.

This rounds out the lower section of the event.

I just love Bayside Blue. This didn’t really belong in the event, I think a sponsor owner it.

Kinja'd!!!

More cars need “SUPER CHARGER” badges on rear and doors.

Kinja'd!!!

Always loved these. The owner was unaware that the roof could be stored in the car (it goes very neatly beneath the boot floor). I went with it.

The Cosmo! It wasn’t mint condition, but still great to see. Such a uniquely styled car. Small too.

R33 sedan from outside the event. Figured most Oppos have never seen an R33.

On a side note, this street is very Jalop. My MR2 is parked ahead of the ‘rolla.

I knind of miss my XT then I think of all the problems it had from the pnumatic suspension to the electric steering and then I really don’t miss it.

That’s sad. It’s quite a unique and under-loved car. I’d love to be able to keep one in flawless condition, caring for its foibles. But it’s hard to justify when they’re worth next to nothing.

You could see it in the condition on the cars here. They certainly weren’t showroom. Hopefully one day this whole era goes up in value and it’s worth fixing cars like these.

I had just gotten my XT 6 smogged and then the suspension failed. That was the last straw. You can do a straight swap out with a Legacy sedan but I didn’t feel like putting another $800 into it at that point.

I saw the preview to this comment and somehow I knew this would be the car it was about.

I couldn’t help thinking how dead you’d be if someone crashed into you. Old + small = dead af

Maybe so, but if safety stopped every classic car owner, they’d have all disappeared by now! :)

Also, size doesn’t necessarily matter in that regard...

I’m not sure about that. Sure, the driver would be dead. Those in the back seat might have survived. The whole front half of the car served as a crumple zone, leaving the back better off.

The Honda is shorter than that crumple zone. Everyone in the Honda would be dead.

It was at Como Park in South Yarra. It’s been on a few years running now, always around the same time. I only heard about it last year for the first time too.

Awesome! I didn’t know they made an ‘86 T-top. Those N12s are a bit weird, but still awesome.

It was pretty solid and my dad could do wonders with a carb. Even in 2001 it still ran great.

Last year had that beautiful Autozam. The thing blew me away, I couldn’t stop looking at it. I couldn’t walk away from it without turning around multiple times for one last gaze. It was just so damn awesome.

THAT was the best auto show ever. This is a close second ;)

This tickles my fancy. I’ve always loved the ST185 GT-Four.

Makes you remember the times where toyota was a brand people dreamed of owning. Now not so much.
